BIOL 6090: Advanced Biometry

BIOL 6090: Advanced Biometry

Spring 2023

Theoretical foundations and practical application of statistics to the synthesis, representation and analysis of data sets from marine, environmental and biomedical sciences. Through homework sets, quizzes and the use of computer software applications, students will learn and apply a variety of statistical tests: contingency tables, t-tests, correlation, regression, and analysis of variance applications.

These analyses will be presented in the context of experimental design and hypothesis testing. Students will complete an independent data analysis project, using their own dataset(s).

Days Time Location
Tues & Thurs 08:45 – 10:00 @AC 201, (HLC)

Graduate, 3 Credits.

Instructor: David Hyrenbach – khyrenbach@hpu.edu

MARS 4911: Field Research in Marine Biology

MARS 4911: Field Research in Marine Biology

Spring 2023

In this capstone course for Marine Biology majors, students implement a group research project in an area of interest within marine science. This project entails designing a sampling plan, collecting and analyzing the data, and synthesizing the results within the context of the peer-reviewed literature.

At the end of the semester, the students communicate their findings in an individual presentation and scientific paper.

Days Times Locations
Field: Mon. 07:30 – 12:00 RV Kaholo
Lab: Mon. 07:30 – 12:00 @AC 212
